Understand Excel basics

You’ll learn why Excel is the leading data tool — and how to use it to enhance the way you analyze and restructure your data. Then practice basic Excel navigation and explore a dataset to determine the right questions to ask of your data for analysis.

Prepare and analyze data in Excel

After applying basic data cleaning functions to prepare your data for analysis, you’ll use references and ranges to manipulate the data, connect data from multiple spreadsheets, and create PivotTables to quickly summarize your data.

Build visualizations from your data analysis

You’ll learn when to use different types of visualizations to accurately convey your data, then get hands-on practice with charts and conditional formatting to make your analysis easy to interpret.

Workshop Agenda

Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) in Excel to familiarize yourself with a dataset, and learn to ask the right questions of your data so you know what you’re looking for in your analysis.
Before you can analyze a dataset, it will almost always need to be cleaned first. Learn common Excel functions and formulas for data cleaning, then get your hands dirty applying best practices like splitting or combining columns, working with text data, and handling NULLs to prepare your data for analysis.
Understand how to effectively manipulate data using absolute references, relative references, and named ranges. Then practice connecting data across multiple spreadsheets using LOOKUP, INDEX, and MATCH functions. Take your analytics to the next level with PivotTables and aggregation functions to quickly summarize data.
Turn your analysis into a visual. Learn the difference between visualizations like bar charts, line graphs, and scatterplots — and when to use them. Once you know which to use when, you’ll apply conditional formatting and create common Excel charts to visualize trends and outliers in data.

Our workshops are split into two evening sessions that are each three hours long. Workshops typically take place on a Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday, from 3–6 p.m. PT/6–9 p.m. ET.
Don’t worry, we know life can be hectic — and unpredictable. If you can only make one session, you'll still have access to the recordings for the entire workshop that you can reference at any time.
You bet — we want you to continue practicing and referencing the things you learned long after your workshop ends. You should receive the recording and any in-class materials within one week of your workshop via email.
We don't believe your education should end when your workshop does, so you'll have plenty of time to access your class recordings to review and revisit what you've learned at your own pace.

Think of free classes as the “sample spoon.” No cost, no commitment, and you can try as many flavors as you want. Free classes are two hours long and hosted in a Zoom webinar where participant audio/video is automatically off, and interaction is contained within Zoom chat and Q&A functions. Workshops, on the other hand, are more like the “single scoop.” It costs a little, but you get a lot more. Workshops are six hours of live instruction hosted in a Zoom meeting room where participants can share audio/video and interact live with instructors and classmates.
