Associate UX Director ,
Paul McAleer is a designer working to improve people's lives.
Paul has 33 years of experience in technology and design. Paul's initial focus in developing high-quality websites uncovered a passion for creating thoughtful interfaces and, later still, defining holistic strategies and experiences for people, non-profits, and companies. Paul built the UX practice at Gogo, and has helped other organizations plan and staff for effective design work. His clients include Orbitz, Expedia, UnitedHealthcare, and Stanford Hospital & Clinics.
In his current work, Paul uses design as a tool to make us better people. Paul is an Associate UX Director at Rightpoint, where he creates apps, websites, and strategies that keep users' needs at their centers. His work at Rightpoint includes deep user research, roadmaps, prototypes, and facilitating collaborative workshops with clients.
The idea of applying design to our lives is expressed in the podcast Paul co-hosts, Designing Yourself. In each episode, he and Whitney Hess discuss topics like compassion and self-care within the context of design. The show is entering its fourth season and has a highly devoted audience.
Paul is a noted writer, speaker, and photographer. His speaking engagements include repeat performances at SXSW Interactive and WebVisions. He also spoke at the inaugural UX STRAT conference and World IA Day Chicago. His writing has been published in UX Matters, and his photography was featured in the book Communicating with Pattern: Stripes. Paul is currently working on his first book.
A Chicago native, Paul now lives in beautiful Denver, Colorado with his wife, son, and dog.
