You already know Colorado is incredible. We have 300 days of sunshine each year, our state contains 75% of the land area in U.S. with an altitude over 10,000 feet, and we have 222 state wildlife areas. Our capital brews more beer than any other American city, and Denver is the nation's most highly educated city with the highest percentage of high school and college graduates.
However, did you also know Colorado is facing some major social issues today? In 2016 there were 5,467 homeless men, women and children counted in the seven-county Metro Denver area. Each year, overdose deaths from opioid painkillers alone number approximately 300 in Colorado. 11.5% of Colorado residents had incomes below the poverty line ($24,250 for a family of four) in 2015.
Homelessness, substance abuse, refugee resettlement, poverty, and education in low-income areas are very real problems in the centennial state today. The impact these issues have on our neighbors’ lives can be overwhelming. But there is so much hope.
Join Cause Labs, Daniel’s Women in Business, and General Assembly as we ask the question… Can we empower all Colorado companies to use business as a force for good? And what would happen if we did?
Social Entrepreneurs in Colorado are passionate about helping people and solving these issues in big, sustainable ways. On Wednesday, September 20th we will hear stories from the people on the ground, facing these challenges everyday, working to change people's lives. There is so much to love about Colorado, and we want to share stories from people who consistently strive to make our home state even greater. We’ll see you then.
