Dr. Philip Cannata received his PhD. in 1980 from the University of Notre Dame and has worked in the Computer Science industry for over 38 years starting with doing Unix development at Bell Laboratories in the early 80s. His most significant contribution to Unix was the design and inclusion of Shared Memory, Semaphores, and Memory Mapped Files into Unix 4 and 5. He was a Research Director at MCC in Austin, Texas and then worked at IBM and Sun Microsystems. Dr. Cannata currently works as the lead performance data analyst in the Solaris Infiniband Department at Oracle Corporation. Dr. Cannata has also been an Adjunct Professor at UT Austin for 16 years teaching "Data Management", "Data Visualization", "Data Analytics", "Programming Languages", "Data Structures and Algorithms in Java and Python", and "Networking". He is also an Oracle Certified Professional and teaches "Oracle Database 12c: Data Mining Techniques" for Oracle University.
