Maria is Filipino-American and has lived in Mexico, the Philippines, England and Ghana. Currently, she lives on Duwamish land (modern day Kirkland) in Washington state.
Her maternal side hails from Banawe, Ifugao. It was her father's side that emmigrated to the US many generations ago from Germany and settled on Erie land (present day, Ohio).
Both her parents are from rural, agricultural towns and she grew up fortunate enough to visit these places throughout her upbringing. She grew up belonging to both and neither at the same time. Deeply influenced by both cultures, she is passionate about sustainable agriculture and equality.
She received her 200-hour Yoga teacher training certification at Tranquil Space in Washington D.C. She has led classes and workshops in Washington D.C. and Ghana. Currently, she has been cultivating her own Yoga and Mindfulness practice and focusing on her own personal healing journey.
