Krzysztof Marianski

Krzysztof is a data science, analytics and coding instructor with experience in working with data in both commercial and academic settings. He has been teaching at General Assembly since 2019, having had initially been a student at GA’s very own Data Science Immersive programme. He holds BSc Biological Sciences (Forensic Biology) and MSc Forensic Medical Sciences and throughout his studies he always followed the route of statistical analysis. Currently, Krzysztof is a PhD student in statistical genomics/bioinformatics at University of St Andrews. The aim of his PhD is to improve the interpretation of genomic data using artificial intelligence. He uses the knowledge acquired through research and commercial experience to teach students how to solve data problems in a scientific manner..

What is your favorite technical skill to work with on your own projects and why?

It's got to be the Pandas library. I spend most of my days analysing large datasets, and Pandas is by far the most versatile tool out there. If you think Pandas should have a specific method to help you analyse your data, it probably already has it!

It's got to be Pandas again. It's my bread and butter - I use it every day, and I genuinely believe that anyone wanting to learn Python should get to grips with it in great detail. It’s essential for data analysis and will make your life so much easier.

What’s most important to me about teaching technical skills at General Assembly is the mindset of the people who sign up to learn. Everyone who joins is genuinely motivated to better themselves, and I feel proud that I can help them achieve this.

In the digital era we’re in now, there’s so much information out there that it can be hard to know what to focus on. My advice is to set yourself an achievable goal and then work on mastering the skills needed to reach that goal. Eyes on the prize!

In my field, generative AI has really shaken things up. There’s now a much greater focus on deeper understanding, insights, and interpretation, rather than just routine analysis. The pace of change is rapid, so it’s essential to keep upskilling and adapting to meet new demands, including technical.
