    IN CONVERSATION WITH KATIE:

What is your favorite technical skill to work with on your own projects and why?

In my day job, I work as a backend Java developer. So in my personal projects, I enjoy learning more about the front-end and ways I can creatively improve my CSS skills.

What is your favorite technical skill to teach to students and why?

I love teaching foundational programming concepts like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript because once students grasp them, they gain confidence to tackle more complex challenges.

What is most important to you about teaching technical skills at General Assembly?

Helping students feel supported and capable is most important to me. Learning tech can feel intimidating, and I want students to know they can succeed with the right guidance and persistence.

What advice do you have for anyone looking to learn technical skills to reach new career goals?

Have a clear plan and set specific goals for yourself. Knowing what you want to achieve helps you stay focused, track progress, and hold yourself accountable.

What would you like to highlight about your experience in your technical domain outside of teaching?

Outside of teaching, I work as a Java developer in the banking industry, working on new development and to support projects in production. I also mentor junior developers, which is probably the most rewarding part of the job.
