Karen McDonnell is an Information Technology Director at Capital One in Rolling Meadows, IL where she supports the Partnerships Card Technology organization.

Karen has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida. She has extensive experience in building and leading large global IT teams to achieve key business results and operating efficiencies. She is known for her ability to collaborate with business partners, technology leaders and vendors to execute and deliver large transformational programs.

At Capital One, Karen leads an organization that builds and supports applications for Call Center Operations, Fraud and Disputes Management, and Credit Card Rewards functions. They are focused on improving business processes, as well as, modernizing applications using open source and cloud technologies.

Before Capital One, Karen spent over 20 years at Motorola where she held a variety of leadership positions in Information Technology. Karen additionally held positions at AT&T, and the Department of the Navy.

Karen is passionate about diversity in the workplace and holds a committee lead position in Capital One’s Women in Technology Chicago Chapter, where she is Creating a Thriving Community of Women Technologists!

Karen lives in Cary, IL with her husband Mark. Her eldest son, Matt, is a Civil Engineer working on the new Raiders stadium in Las Vegas, NV. Daughter, Katelyn is completing an Occupational Therapy Doctorate program in Chattanooga, TN, and youngest daughter is a Sophomore studying Business Analytics at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. In her spare time, Karen enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching football ("Go Gators"), reading and traveling.
