Joy Bonaguro has spent her career working at the nexus of policy, data, design and technology. She is the first Chief Data Officer for the City and County of San Francisco, where she manages DataSF. The mission of DataSF is to empower use of data, transforming the way the city works through data. DataSF focuses its work on streamlining data access, improving data management and governance, and boosting capacity to use data through training and data science. Prior to joining the City, Joy developed technology, cyber and privacy policy across the Department of Energy’s National Laboratory System. She also worked from the birth of the open data and data democratization movements, spending seven years designing and managing the development of information systems to support planning and decision-making in New Orleans.
