John's journey has been a natural one, following an evolutionary path from print to digital, picking up various and widespread skills and experience. Roughly 20 years in the making, John has worked with Government departments including the Australian Bureau of Statistics and NSW Health where he also worked on campaigns for the Heart Foundation and Cancer Council. John's brief stint in the US exposed him to brands including James Allen, Bonobos, Williams Sonoma and Pinkberry, working on UX strategy, IA and in-store experience.
In 2012, John left family and friends behind in Sydney to join GMG, a Melbourne-based startup Digital Agency where he founded the UX design department, introducing products, applications, processes and building teams. During his 4 year stint, GMG picked up numerous awards and worked on campaigns for Hydralyte Sports, KORA Organics, Youi, Daiso, Jo Mercer and more.
John's core focus has always been to continuously drive and support UCD and Design Thinking principles. You'll hear John often reference veterans of the game such as Don Norman, Jakob Nielsen, Dieter Rams and the intelligent minds at IDEO. He loves to talk behavioural models, persuasion, design theory and psychology.
John arrives at General Assembly fresh after completing projects for Country Road and Mercedes-Benz.
