    Joe Megyesy

    Principal, JAM Communications, Ltd.

    Denver

A Colorado native and veteran Republican operative, Joe Megyesy was most recently a program officer with the Gill Foundation, focusing his efforts on advancing gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender rights in traditionally conservative strongholds in the South and Intermountain West.

Joe previously served as communications director for U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, as well as press secretary for the Colorado Senate Republican Caucus. During his time serving these legislators, Joe developed deep relationships with members of the Colorado news media, particularly those journalists covering rural Colorado, since the majority of the State Senate Republicans represented areas not on the Front Range.

In 2012, Joe joined the Yes on Amendment 64 Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol, where he directed the campaign's conservative outreach efforts. He also helped develop and implement the initiative’s communications strategy. Joe helped secure the support of former Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo and implemented an outreach plan for the Congressman. Tancredo was the most prominent politician supporting the Yes on 64 campaign and likely was responsible for the nearly 60,000 votes the initiative received in excess of President Obama. Joe was subsequently hired by the Marijuana Policy Project, the main backer of the legalization initiative, to work as a lobbyist on implementation of the law during Colorado’s 2013 legislative session.

In 2013, Joe led communications efforts for the successful Proposition AA statewide ballot initiative campaign to tax legal, adult-use marijuana in Colorado.

Joe has also been involved with several successful coalition-building efforts, including Vital for Colorado, which built a broad base of support for the natural resource industry and Texas Competes, which is coalition of businesses in support of LGBT rights in the Lone Star State.

In 2016, Joe managed media relations the successful launch of the Raise the Bar, Protect Our Constitution statewide ballot initiative.
