James has been highly active as an entrepreneur and investor in Melbourne for over fifteen years.

James works with a with a portfolio of complementary for profit and not-for profit enterprises, taking an active role in each venture. James’ current projects span property, wellbeing, arts, education, financial services and travel-tech.

His latest venture is The Plato Project, a business school that aims to educate globally-aware and strategically minded entrepreneurs. Core to The Plato Project’s educational program is a focus on mindful leadership, entrepreneurship and purpose driven business.

James is a director and investor in Neometro. Neometro is Melbourne’s most prominent design and socially focused residential real estate development group, with projects throughout inner urban Melbourne. Neometro’s portfolio includes the multi stage "new urban village" at Jewell Station Brunswick.

James is an investor and deputy chairperson with Australian Home Income (AHI). AHI is an early stage enterprise in the financial services space, originating income focused products for retirees. AHI will launch in the fourth quarter of 2017.

James is an investor and director of travel-tech start up, TripFuser. Trip-Fuser provides travelers with a global market-place for locally sourced experiential travel – connecting travelers to local experts, experiences and culture. TripFuser will launch in the third quarter of 2017.

James is a founding board member of Contemporary Arts Precincts (CAP) - a new not for profit whose first project is the ambitious re-purposing of Melbourne's Collingwood TAFE site into one of Australia's largest multi-disciplinary artistic communities. 

In 2012, James co- founded not-for- profit Smiling Mind. Smiling Mind is now Australia’s largest mindfulness meditation training program with 2,000,000 downloads of its app and a presence on the curriculum of more than 10,000 schools and a workplace program that operates in companies like IBM, Google, Lend Lease and Twitter.

He was a founding director of urban farming group 3000acres, a founding board member of B Corporation in Australia and also digital fundraising platform Shout for Good.

James has an entrepreneurial background, having established Moonlight Cinema in Melbourne in 1996 while in his final year of university. The business was subsequently sold to Amalgamated Holdings Limited (Greater Union).
