James Nickerson

VP & Innovation Lead, Weber Shandwick

San Francisco

James (Jim) started his marketing and communications career "running tapes" at CNN during the Gulf War, and has been communicating ever since. Jim is currently the Vice President and Innovation Lead at Weber Shandwick's SF/SV offices. Weber Shandwick has been named Global Agency of the Year in PRWeek for 2015 and 2016, and an dAdvertising Age Agency A-List Standout this year, 2017

In addition to extensive corporate communications and marketing experience, Jim spent three years as the Social Media manager for the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, the largest and first chorus of its kind. Jim built SFGMC’s program from scratch and created a fully robust social media platform, now modeled by other arts organizations around the world. He still works with SFGMC, speaking at national conferences about the power of communications and social media advocacy.

Jim was awarded the 2014 Leading Change Award from NTEN, the National Non-Profit Technology Network. The award is given annually to an outstanding individual whose leadership has made a significant contribution to positively change his organization, his community, and the sector.

Jim believes in a "Less Is More" strategy when it comes to Digital and Social Media Marketing. Learning how to get the most done with limited resources and capacity, and looking fabulous while doing it, is at the core of his marketing strategies.

He has also worked at Dynamic Signal Symantec, Accenture, SFGMC, The National AIDS Memorial Grove, Academy of Friends and for Special Olympics in Washington, D.C. Born in New York, he has lived in San Francisco for the last 16 years and sings with SFGMC and the Lollipop Guild, an SFGMC small ensemble. Likes include long walks on the beach, employee advocacy and puppies. Dislikes include mean people, bad data and singing minor thirds.
