    Co-Owner and Beverage Director, Himitsu

    Washington, D.C.

Carlie Steiner is the Co-Owner and Beverage Director of Himitsu. Upon receiving a BPS in Culinary Arts Management from the Culinary Institute of America, she launched her career in Washington DC. Carlie helped open Barmini by José Andrés, where she fell in love with all things cocktail. She started Stir Bartending Company in January 2014 to create customized cocktail experiences for high profile events, and continues this work as a beverage consultant to some of DC's favorite restaurants. Carlie and her business partner Kevin Tien opened Himitsu in the fall of 2016 to pair Japanese-inspired dishes with thoughtful and inventive cocktails, Spanish sherry + esoteric wines. She is motivated by creating unforgettable experiences for her guests as well as acting as a incubator for back-of-house and front-of-house professionals who want to expand their knowledge on the food and beverage world. Carlie strives to make a difference by not shying from social decisions as a business owner but rather embracing them and feeling good about her business practices.

Carlie was named a Thrillist Bartender of the Year in 2016, Forbes national 30 under 30 2017, Zagat's first ever 30 Under 30 National recognition 2017 and many more.
