Alex Dmitriew is a Commercial Recycling Coordinator for the City and County of San Francisco’s Department of the Environment. Alex has been with the Department since 2004 and has played a key role in implementing several ordinances as part of the City’s zero waste strategy. These include C&D recycling, banning Styrofoam and single use plastic bags and the City’s landmark Mandatory Recycling and Composting Ordinance.
Prior to working with SF Environment, Alex worked for more than twenty-five years for a privately held waste management and recycling company in Southern California. During his tenure Alex implemented a number of innovative recycling programs including organics recovery for supermarkets; construction and demolition debris recycling; paper recycling for commercial accounts; residential curbside recycling; and food recycling programs for large scale food manufacturers.
