Alec - Equity Mates
Co-Founder, Equity Mates Investing Podcast
Alec, 25, is lazy. If there’s an easy way and a hard way to do something – Alec probably won’t do it. Which is why investing is perfect for him. Buying an ownership stake in a company that employs staff to make their shareholders more money, that’s a pretty good deal. So Alec bought his first shares in 2013, choosing the law firm Slater + Gordon. Within a year that investment had lost 99% of its value and Alec had learnt a few lessons along the way. Now a little warier, but just as lazy, Alec dreams of being able to quit his job and live off the hard work of others (and the dividends they produce). He’s a Sydney Swans fan, one of the few that will argue that Buddy was a bargain, and he hopes Equity Mates helps explain the importance of investing early and the joys of compounding returns.
