    About this event

According to the data, the 2010s is the first decade in recorded history we've become significantly less happy without war or recession.

This talk takes a data-driven approach into discovering why that might be, drawing upon research and psychological studies to illuminate why our collective mental health has suffered, before outlining actionable tools we can all use to boost it going forward -- and especially while we're at home more.

Join all-in-one workplace mental health support, Spill for a practical exercise into tools and habits for working on your own happiness and mental health, especially in a pandemic-affected world.

    Takeaways

    • An understanding of what is happening to our happiness and mental health (in data terms) over the past ten years
    • Behavioural factors which may be contributing to that (lower attention spans, less completion fulfilment, less unstructured free time, time confetti)
    • Broader cultural factors which may be contributing to that (warped priorities, unwinnable goalposts, the inflated 'self', comparative bias)
    • Evolutionary psychological factors which may be contributing to that (what our brains are programmed for, the role of the amygdala)
    • An understanding of the three most broadly used types of therapy (life coaching, CBT and psychotherapy): what they involve and what they're each trying to achieve
    • Practical exercises, tools and habits for working on your own happiness and mental health, especially in a pandemic-affected world
