About this class series

In today’s competitive web environment, designing an interface that is both engaging and easy to navigate is a necessity. This class series, which is tailored to non-designers, will teach students about the fundamental concepts of web design and how to discuss these ideas using key terminology. If you are thinking about getting involved in web development, product management or just want to know your Helvetica from your Papyrus, this class is for you. This class is ideal for students looking to learn the basics of designing for the web, covering desktop and mobile devices. Session One: Brief history of web design Design principles for the web; typography, layouts, user experience Why rapid prototyping and wireframes are important Create a design from a brief Session Two: Recieve comprehensive feedback on your design Learn the key constraints and challenges of designing for the web An overview of the rules of web browsers and mobile devices How to design sustainable interfaces for the web Level Pre-Requisites: None

Required class materials / software: As the design will be completed by students between session one and two, a laptop is not required though will be useful for taking notes, and accessing tools referenced in the first session. Gimp - a free design tool is available at http://www.gimp.org
