About this event

The job market is an ever changing environment and consequently, new trends are beginning to emerge in resume format and content. In the competitive New York market, it is important to submit cohesive, thoughtful and clean looking resumes to set yourself apart and stand out from other applicants.

In this workshop, we'll focus on modern resume best practices in both content and format. We'll deep dive into trends in wording, design, and creating your personal narrative that best displays your transferable skills. We'll also address the do's and don'ts as well as common myths when restructuring your resume.

This workshop would benefit career changers, recent grads, or anyone returning to the job hunt after years in the same position/field.

Takeaways

Students will be able to:

  • Explain how their skills are transferable into relevant job-seeking experience.
  • Write/Reword content for a current professional resume.
  • Format their resume appropriately for their intended field.

Prereqs & Preparation

The instructor will send a brainstorm assignment in advance for students to prepare. This will ask students for more information about their past work experience, education, skills, etc. We also encourage you to bring past resumes to class, in their original editable document form.

Students will need a notepad and pen, as well as a laptop for class.
