What are the professional backgrounds of coding bootcamp students?
Software Engineering Bootcamp students come from all walks of life but share one common mission: They are passionate about launching a career in tech by gaining an in-demand, technical skill set. We see career-changers from diverse professional backgrounds, including sales, marketing, project management, finance, and many more. Most are aiming to secure jobs as software engineers or web developers, while others may be looking to combine past experience with a new skill set to enter more specialised roles.
Are there any prerequisites for this coding bootcamp?
This is a beginner-friendly programme with no prerequisites, although many students have engaged in self-learning previously or have worked at tech startups or in tech-adjacent roles. Whether you’re new to the field or you’re looking to formalise your practice, our curriculum helps you gain fluency in the languages, frameworks, and libraries that modern employers demand and put them to work.
Our Admissions team can discuss your background and learning goals to advise if SEI is a good fit for you.
The course also requires:
A good level of English proficiency (for non-native speakers, a CEFR level of B2 or a TOEFL score of 90 is recommended). Check this self-assessment grid. A placement test will be required if your native language is not English.
Your own laptop (Mac only*). It must be no more than four years old and able to run the most recent operating system.
If remote, a webcam, headphones, and good access to the internet are required.
* Windows is not supported in this course at this time. In general, we only recommend students set up a Linux or a dual-boot system (Ubuntu) if they are already competent and experienced to run those operating systems (Expert level). Because the configurations of these systems can vary widely and curriculum will only be taught through a Mac OS, our instructors cannot guarantee or will be expected to resolve technical issues for a non-Mac OS.
