About this workshop

Developing mobile apps isn’t just for the technically-inclined anymore. Whether it’s keeping your brand top of mind with consumers, improving the sales process or mobilizing your donor base, this class will help you translate your idea into a testable wireframe prototype. Along the way, we’ll walk you through the all-important front-end thinking that will help you create a better app – avoiding the fate of 90% of the apps currently out there that are abandoned within a year. We’ll introduce you the stuff to do before your app launches – naming, setting up pre-launch essentials, what to build into your app so it performs beautifully. We won’t teach you how to code, but we’ll tell you how to teach yourself, set up a developer account with Apple and get your app into the App Store and out to family, friends and co-workers.

Takeaways

  • Clear definition of your app’s mission purpose – what it’s going to do, who it’s going to appeal to, concrete problem(s) it’s going to solve, how its going to make the user’s life better

  • Understanding the differences between iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8 – determining which platform works best for your app

  • Learn how to get started with the App Store and Google Play – optimizing the visibility and uptake of your app with the right title, keywords, description, copy, icons, screenshots and videos; encouraging positive reviews

  • Review resources for learning basic programming and teaching yourself how to code

  • Understand how to leverage the development community and time-saving resources to get your app to market as quickly as possible

  • Learn how to promote, distribute and market your app

  • Explore ways to make money on your app
