Overview: This inspiring panel event series invites key players in DC's design community to offer a rare insider’s look at how they work and create. From branding to user experience to city planning, panelists will discuss how they approach projects from a design point of view, how design thinking methods help with problem-solving, and much more. Plus, they’ll cover opportunities within the field and their vision for the future of the industry.

What You’ll Take Away: Gain practical tips and insight from expert designers on how they’re solving problems through design, and get inspired to take your creativity to the next level.

Why It Matters: Design is one of the most powerful forces in our lives. It affects our morning commute, how we experience websites and apps, and how we communicate with each other. About the Speaker

Chair of Graphic Design,
Maryland Institute College of Art

Brockett Horne is a graphic designer who first learned of typography when examining billboards from the backseat of her parents station wagon along I-95 just outside of her hometown. She serves as chair of graphic design at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.

Her creative work is inspired by a desire to encourage the spectator to look intensely. She holds a B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design (with double thesae in art history and graphic design), and is an active member of the AIGA, SEGD, and CAA.

She is a past Rotary International Scholar, has been exhibited and honored with multiple design awards, and has work in the permanent collection of the RISD Museum of Art. Her extensive client list as principal of eyedear studio includes: Baltimore Museum of Art, Johns Hopkins University, Taproot Foundation, Polaris Project, and First Night/First Works. She holds pride in her extraordinary stamina for visiting museums.
