About this workshop

Join General Assembly and Alpha for an evening learning with our network of leading product managers and having fun doing it.

1. Hors d'Oeuvres + Networking

2. Mind Your Business (Relationships) Simulation:

The traditional view of stakeholder management only includes managing up, but that view is no longer relevant in today’s dynamic business environment, especially in a PM’s multi-dimensional role. Today’s product managers need to communicate with 360 degrees of stakeholders – up, down and sideways - while also ensuring that messages don’t get lost in translation. In this simulation, participants are guided through several tools to improve relationships with stakeholders then learn how to leverage those tools to communicate ideas in a compelling and interesting way.

Email we just got from a VP of Product at a leading financial services firm that went through this simulation with us in April as part of a 3-day Product Management Training:

"This was my favorite part. We went over how to work with certain types of people and how to come to a “commitment” instead of a “consensus.” There have been so many times our development process was stopped or delayed because not all could agree on one idea. It turns out you don’t have to agree on one idea…you can just commit to one part of the idea together as a group and move forward. I feel my department will benefit immensely from this mindset."

3. Round table + Q&A

Takeaways

Upon completing this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the needs of unique stakeholders by using UX tools
  • Improve collaboration among stakeholders in order to accelerate idea adoption and implementation
  • Identify common challenges, obstacles, and blockers, and how best to overcome them
