About this workshop

A well-designed financial model helps you determine financing needs, acts as your company’s "resume" to financing parties, and serves as a valuable tool for negotiating with investors. The best models are those which can scale with your business, an aspect that is particularly crucial for startup founders and CFO's. This class is geared towards entrepreneurs looking to develop a financial model for the purpose of securing funding from investors.

Takeaways

In addition to understanding how to build an effective financial model, students will learn:

  • The key components of a financial model, including the income statement, cash flow, & balance sheet, and how they work together
  • How to organize an income statement and cash flow statement
  • A very basic valuation approach as it relates to financial modeling
  • Key measures for evaluating investments including discount rates, PV, NPV, and IRR
  • How to build a model that can test the risks that your business faces and to guide your negotiations and decision-making processes.

At the end of the workshop, we'll review a financial model based on an actual startup.
