From the boys of Hawkins in Stranger Things to the “nerdy voice actors playing Dungeons and Dragons” on Critical Role, this 45-year-old role-playing game is emerging from the parents’ basement and into popular culture. What was once the domain of pubescent nerds playing in dark rooms filled with junk food and fantasy is now a beloved pastime for a diverse range of people. For those new to the game, the amount of information available is staggering. Between books, podcasts, articles, and meetups, there is a lot of information that can overwhelm people wanting to test it out. Join veteran RPG nerd Sarah King at General Assembly for a crash course on everything you need to start playing Dungeons and Dragons! This event will give you a basic understanding of the game, how to find a group that works for you, as well as the experience of playing a quick one-shot session so you can experience a bit of gameplay.
This course is suitable for people who have little to no experience with role-playing but want to try it out.
