    About this event

Data science has drastically transformed in recent years, drawing a lot of attention to its ability to produce real, impactful changes across industries. However, despite its many evolutions, the field has seriously lagged in successes in diversity - with the lowest variety in gender, race, and educational diversity amongst technical fields.

For this meetup, we're bringing together leaders from Spotify, MongoDB, WiMLDS, and Turner Broadcasting to discuss the impacts diversity of all kinds - gender, race, socioeconomic and educational - can have on the field, ranging to AI ethics to the perception of a "data scientist." Following the panel, we will break out into speaker-led groups for more personal discussions on how we can actively contribute to building diversity in our own work.

    Schedule:

    • 6:30pm: Pizza, Beer, Networking
    • 7:00pm: Panel discussion
    • 7:30pm: Break-out sessions with panelists
    • Panelists will include:

      • - Inga Chen, Product Manager at Spotify and NYC Chapter Lead for Women in Product
      • - Haile Owusu, SVP of Analytics, Decision and Data Sciences at Turner Broadcasting
      • - A. Jesse Jiryu Davis, Staff Software Engineer at MongoDB
      • - Reshama Shaikh, Board Member of WiMLDS (Women in Machine Learning & Data Science)
      • - Triveni Ghandi, Data Scientist at Dataiku
