About this event

In decades past, the definition of successful leadership has aligned more closely with traditionally masculine traits (e.g. strength, assertiveness, and competitiveness), than traditionally feminine traits (e.g. empathy, compromise, and intuition). Because of this, it’s not uncommon for women to emulate masculine traits in order to get ahead. Yet this old paradigm of leadership has made it difficult for some women to advance at work – and at times has come at the expense of the environment, diverse peoples and the mental health of the workforce.

The purpose of #GutsandGrace is to reconsider traditional definitions of women in leadership, shifting the paradigm of leadership to one that champions both masculine and feminine values – guts and grace – in order to change the nature of business today, and allow both men and women bring their whole selves to work.

What to Expect This dinner and networking event is hosted by the General Assembly, in collaboration with Civic Dinners http://civicdinners.com, and will be facilitated by LeeAnn Mallorie, Author of the new book Guts & Grace: A Woman’s Guide to Full Bodied Leadership (Conscious Capitalism Press, January 2020) https://www.gutsandgrace.com/book.

Participants will have the opportunity to connect with other women leaders for an evening of fun connection and storytelling, on topics related to the challenges and opportunities of leading as a woman in the workplace. The event will conclude with an author Q&A, and an opportunity to purchase advanced copies of the book.

A healthy dinner with vegetarian options will be provided.

Be prepared to be moved (in a good way!) Expect to leave with real professional connections and genuine new friends.

Questions We Will Explore

  • What would be possible if we could shift to a more sustainable paradigm of leadership, one that champions both masculine and feminine values— both guts and grace?

  • How would this change the nature of business and politics today?

  • What would it mean for women (and men) to be able to bring all of themselves to work? And what might be challenging about that?
