Design isn’t just beauty. Design isn’t just art. Design isn’t just function……. So what is it? Join Denver UX, VincentBenjamin, and General Assembly Denver for an evening of looking at the intersection of technology, business, and design.
We will start with a lightning talk from Leah Russell, Vice President of User Experience Design at HomeAdvisor. Leah will give us highlights and insights from John Maeda’s annual #DesignInTech report. We will look at the design trends that are influencing both corporate and startup ecosystems as well as simply daily life.
After the lightning talk, we will hear from a panel of experts. Our conversation will center around the marriage, or lack of marriage, between design and technology. We will discuss the way design influences product creation, user adoption, and growth. Our panel will share their thoughts how to give their non-designers an ability to get to a place of design thinking. We will talk about how to give non-developers and understanding of technology needs. We will talk about where Design can be outsourced and where it must be a fundamental part of the internal team.
Combining design & technology can lead to new possibilities. Come learn, discuss, and dream with us.

Senior User Experience Designer,
Amelia Marschall-Miller is a Senior User Experience Designer in Deloitte Digital’s Denver studio, with more than ten years of experience in digital design for complex mobile and web applications. Her consulting career has spanned a variety of industries including retail, transportation, financial services, and public sector. Her broader experience in UX and UI design, front-end development, and project management have given her an intricate understanding of today’s web and mobile projects. Before joining Deloitte Digital, she co-owned a web and mobile development company in Michigan. She earned her Graphic Design and Marketing degree from Northern Michigan University, and enjoys swimming, hiking, skiing and exploring anything outdoors in Colorado.
Vice President of User Experience Design ,
Leah started her career in Public Relations, quickly learning it was not the world for her. Fortunately, she was able to move into the emerging world of the internet, where they were exploring this new, ambiguous world of “Information Architecture” (with her employer readily admitting they weren’t completely sure what the role was but that the title sure sounded fancy). It was instant love. As her career grew, she helped to establish and foster the IA - and later UX - role in several internet consulting companies before moving to the corporate side, working in both the US and Europe for companies such as Hilton, Travelocity and lastminute.com. Her true passion is professional development, ensuring the field continues to grow with knowledgeable, educated practitioners enthusiastic about completely understanding and catering to customers. Originally from Dallas, she moved to Denver to work for HomeAdvisor in 2012 and has no intention of ever moving again. She holds degrees in Public Relations and Religious Studies from Southern Methodist University, proving that good UX designers can come from any education or background.
