About this workshop series

Building basic websites is not what it once was. Being a front-end web developer today means not only knowing HTML/CSS, but also Javascript, as well as the many frameworks using these languages. Over three weekends, this workshop series covers how to make the shift from building websites (pure HTML/CSS) to how to build web applications that run on any device. It is highly recommended that students take the series in sequence.

Takeaways

In order to start building front-end applications with no conflicts, in the first two-day workshop of this three-part series students will:

  • gain a more advanced understanding of how javascript works
  • learn tricks that javascript programmers use everyday
  • get an advanced refresher on the following topics: variables, data types, objects, arrays, functions, if/else, loops, “this” scope, and more
  • learn about namespacing and loading libraries like Require.js, closures, variable scope, and object properties

Prereqs & Preparation

This workshop series is designed for advanced beginner and intermediate web developers/designers. Those who have moved beyond HTML/CSS and started JS but haven't begun to build full scale web applications.

This would be ideal for graduates of General Assembly's FEWD, BEWD, and WDI courses.

If students have not taken one of these classes, they should be able to demonstrate a beginners knowledge of javascript (know data types, how to use functions, etc).
