About This Workshop

This course will build off of the knowledge students have gained in the Code in One Day Remote Bootcamp to build a more advanced understanding of HTML & CSS and to incorporate Javascript into their websites. Starting with variables, control flow, loops, functions, arrays, and objects, students will begin exercises that allow them to work with the DOM to interact with the browser. Students will build on their HTML & CSS foundation to update a webpage based off of user events and build scripts to handle interactivity on their site. After understanding the basic building blocks of the JS language, the afternoon will focus on advanced Javascript topics like templating with the Javascript and API’s. The day-long program will culminate in students having a responsive, interactive website that will query data from an API and display it dynamically on the page. We will host our website on Github.

Takeaways

Core Javascript Principles such as Arrays, Functions, Loops and Objects, DOM interactions, Events, and API’s.

About the Instructor

Kareem Grant Photo

Software Engineer ,
Hireology

Kareem is currently a software engineer at Hireology, a web-based hiring platform. He's a former business guy who used to work for large companies, but through a series of serendipitous events, he rediscovered his passion for building software and decided to leave the corporate world behind and become a developer.

During his free time he serves as lead instructor for CodeNow, a nonprofit that teaches girls and underrepresented minority youth how to code. When he's not hacking away at a cool side project or teaching kids how to code, you'll probably find him training for his next long distance obstacle race.
