Today, Tuesday, May 5, is Instructor Appreciation Day. This day is special—not only because it marks an annual General Assembly tradition of recognizing our instructors, but also because it highlights not one but two milestones.
Milestone 1: Delivering real skills for 15 years
Fifteen years ago, GA began as a single co-working space in the Flatiron. Where GA’s “product” started as desk space, it soon became the community itself. The professionals looking for co-working space? They soon started giving others the tools to work more effectively in their chosen and future professions. And so, from a co-working experiment grew a revolutionary skill-sharing movement.
In 15 years, the world has evolved. And one constant at GA has been the industry pros with a wealth of knowledge, experience, and skills to share: our instructors.
Our instructors lead the AI skills revolution
Over the years, our instructors have moved GA:
From coworking to classrooms: They’ve transformed “shop talk” into rigorous, industry-leading curricula.
From campus to cloud: They’ve navigated the monumental shift from physical campuses to a borderless, online community, ensuring that “distance learning” has never felt distant.
From digital literacy to applied AI: Today, they aren’t just teaching “digital skills”—they’re leading the AI revolution, helping professionals everywhere navigate the most significant workforce shift since the Industrial Revolution.
Milestone 2: Teaching with GA for a decade
For some of our instructors, 2026 marks 10 years of teaching. So, I want to extend a profound thank you to our decade-long instructors — those legends among us who have been teaching with GA for 10 years or more. As an early part of GA’s journey, their dedication, endurance, and impact are truly remarkable.
To all of our instructors: Thank you for being part of a legacy of practitioners who believe that education should be as evolutionary as the world around us. Collectively, you’ve given more than110,000 peoplethe opportunity to learn and grow. And you don’t just teach how to code, analyze data, or design experiences—you open doors for others to experience a better life.
Celebrating our differentiators
In this current world of automation and asynchronous content, our instructors are the differentiator. They provide the “real-world” application and experience that’s turned career hurdles into wins and delivered the skills gear to climb professional mountains to the top.
To our community reading this: Please join me today on LinkedIn by recognizing an instructor who has inspired and mentored you in a General Assembly course.
Instructors, whether you’re marking 10 minutes, 10 months, or 10 years with GA, thank you for your resilience and your brilliance. We wouldn’t be GA without you.
Happy Instructor Appreciation Day,
Jeffrey Bergin
Chief Learning Officer, General Assembly
