Originally trained as a ship-designer at Webb Institute, Wombi spent time sailing aboard, designing, building, and inspecting vessels from luxury sportfishers to massive cruise ships, chemical carriers, and deepwater oil rigs. He studied optimization at MIT and applied his research to the optimization of offshore support vessel logistics. Traveling for a school project at Harvard Business School, he fell in love with Vietnamese paper cards, and decided with his partner John to apply the attention to detail and quality of their experience in ship design and engineering to creating beautiful paper sculptures that fold flat into a card and surprise anyone who opens one for the first time.
