    Tommy (Tom) Shen is a Senior Data Analyst at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), District of Columbia’s state education agency. Tommy Shen holds a BA in Legal Studies from University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Public Policy degree from Georgetown University.

    Having worked in the data arena since 2003 when he first built a functioning and profitable machine learning algorithm for online poker, Tom is experienced and fascinated with scaling machine learning prototypes that work on small datasets into predictive algorithms that work in the big data context. Tom has given talks in the data community on using simulated data to prototype algorithms with only partial access to data sets. Tom is also an active participant in the vibrant DC data science community as well as a member of the Code4DC Education project.
