Scott Strong is currently a machine learning researcher and data scientist at Pindrop, an Atlanta-based startup that provides enterprise solutions to help prevent fraud over the phone. At Pindrop, his work focuses on the improvement of existing fraud detection methods and research and development to create new ways of catching phone-based fraud. Prior to Pindrop, Mr. Strong worked as a quantitative analyst and software developer for another Atlanta startup (Lucena Research) in the finance industry. There he performed R&D of machine learning techniques to predict financial market movement and created custom investment strategies for hedge funds and registered investment advisers.
Scott is a graduate of Iowa State University's Aerospace Engineering program (2010), where he engaged in the research and design of guidance algorithms to prevent mid-air collisions of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Following ISU, he moved to Atlanta to further his education at Georgia Tech with an MS in Aerospace Engineering (2011) and an MBA (2012). During his time at GT, Scott worked on research to design hypersonic ballistic missiles as well as techniques to model and assess the U.S. Ballistic Missile Defense System. The focus of his masters work was in the optimization of neural networks architectures for use in aerospace related applications.
With his work in multiple industries, Scott has enjoyed dissecting the elements of solving a problem, discovering methods that generalize across different industries and problem types. As an entrepreneur, he is always looking to learn from others and provide his insights when others can benefit from his experiences.
