Sam Hellman-Mass

Chef/Partner, Odd Duck

Austin

Sam Hellman-Mass shipped straight down from Boston to work with friend and Barley Swine owner, Bryce Gilmore. Old friends from culinary adventures past were united in the Barley Swine kitchen & now run Odd Duck side by side.
Odd Duck has received much national acclaim with Hellman-Mass’ help. In 2014 it was named one of Bon Appetit Top 50 Restaurants in the U.S., Eater National’s Restaurant of the Year and shortly thereafter, Hellman-Mass was named one of Zagat’s 30 Under 30 for 2014. In 2015, Hellman-Mass was named as a James Beard Award semi-finalist for Rising Star Chef.
When not spending his days and nights at Odd Duck, Hellman-Mass is usually still cooking, but in true Boston-boy fashion has a love of basketball, enjoys exploring Austin, gardening and keeping in touch with the farmers from which Odd Duck sources.
