Ryan is a GA alumnus from our Software Engineering Immersive who has a background in diplomacy, policy, and agriculture. Ryan discovered a passion for environmentalism growing up in the eastern stretches of the rural bay area, working construction jobs as a teenager after school where overtime, where the climate he knew and loved noticeably degraded over time. After working on diplomatic peacebuilding and agricultural policy in Germany and the US, he spent time living in Iceland where he worked with all manner of land and sea-based agriculture.
He found a lack of technological solutions in all those areas frustrating and began his time learning software engineering. Because of his past in advising aquaponics programs in Australia, Europe, and America, he is currently using his new software engineering skills to build and automate his own aquaponics farm and is volunteering with the resource conservation district to help bring this sustainable form of growing plants and fish to schools across the county.
