It's been a long strange journey for Mike Simmons. He used to be a punk rock bassist, before he was a Mechanical Engineer, before he designed robots for NASA. The list goes on. Somewhere along the way though, Mike discovered he had a talent and passion for crafting beer and mead. With his refined palette and exacting technical skills, he earned the designation of National BJCP Beer and Mead Judge.
In 2013, excited by the vast possibilities of mead, Mike co-founded Meridian Hive Meadery in Austin. In the very first months of operation, Meridian Hive earned a Mazer Cup International Commercial Medal. The Hive picked up two medals the next year and five medals this year. Success has followed. Meridian Hive has doubled sales annually and is now available in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio - in restaurants, bars and retailers from Whole Foods to HEB to your neighborhood craft beverage market.
Mike is forefront in leading the Mead revolution making Mead the fastest growing section of the alcohol industry.
