Director, Houston School of Advertising


Before becoming Director of the Houston School of Advertising, Matt Walsh taught History and Geography, first at an American School in Italy and then in the public schools of Houston. To complete the career switch into advertising, he headed to the Chicago Portfolio School where he finished his Copywriting portfolio and landed his first writing gig at Havas Worldwide Chicago.

He returned home to Houston to work at STANANDLOU, followed by a long stint as Senior Copywriter at Idea Digital. Later, as Associate Creative Director for Six Foot Studios, Matt handled all the writing for the agency’s accounts and gaming division. An in-house position at Mexican resort company, Vidanta, pulled him away from the agency life. At Vidanta, he helped build out the creative team and elevate the brand as Director of Content. After that, Matt worked for various clients as a freelance writer, but he has finally found his creative home at Houston agency, Softway, as Creative Director.

When he’s not creative directing, writing, or trying to talk his students out of going into advertising, you’ll find Matt working in his garden, building things out of wood, bothering his wife, and taking naps with his animals.
