Marilyn is the founding principal of Runcible Studios, a design/build/research practice in Boston, MA, where she is also a Member of the Faculty at the Boston Architectural College, and an Adjunct Professor at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Previously, Marilyn was a project architect at Utile Inc Architecture + Planning in Boston, MA, and the Director of Practice Instruction at the Boston Architectural College, where she directed the Gateway Initiative, a series of nearly 50 design-based community engagement projects in the Boston area. She has also worked as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University and as a building contractor in Charlottesville, VA, and was the 2010 SOM Prize winner, which allowed her to research the intersection of culture and climate mediation in vernacular residential architecture in 11 cities on 5 continents over 2 years. She is a regular contributor to sectioncut.com, has lectured at UVA, Harvard GSD, Boston Architectural College, UC Berkeley, RISD, Savannah College of Art and Design, and Elon School of Law, as well as firms and conferences nationally and internationally on her work and research. She also serves on Northeastern Law School’s NuLawLab advisory board.

Marilyn is deeply committed to the seams between disciplines, methodologies, theories, and practices, and is a fervent champion of sustainability, affordability, reimagining the construction process, and the power of communities to leverage design for positive change. Marilyn holds a BS Arch, a BA History, and an M.Arch from the University of Virginia, and is a licensed Architect.
