Karen Larsen is the owner of Larsen Associates, a public relations firm specializing in publicizing independent feature and documentary films, film festivals, and special events for over 35 years. She currently handles Bay Area publicity campaigns for Sony Pictures Classics, Music Box Films, Oscilloscope Laboratories, Zeitgeist Films, Samuel Goldwyn Films, Amplify/Variance Films, Well-Go, Kino Lorber, MPI, Required Viewing, Outsider Pictures and Argot. She is publicist for the Pacific Film Archive and handles publicity for major film festivals in the Bay Area: CAAMFest, (International Asian American Film Festival,) San Francisco International Jewish Film Festival, The San Francisco International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, SF Indie Fest, The California Film Festival, SF DocFest, Green Festival and The San Francisco International South Asian Film Festival. She serves as a consultant to many independent filmmakers and has taught classes at San Francisco State, the Art Institute, Media Alliance, Film Arts Foundation, BAVC, and the National Educational Media Network. In November of 2011, Larsen received the Essential SF Award from the San Francisco Film Society. In 2014 she was honored by the Women’s Film Institute in March, and presented with the "Lights! Camera! Action! Award by the Roxie Theater in May.
