Data Advocacy Lead, General Assembly / Independent Consultant

Washington, D.C.

Joseph builds data science products and likes empowering others to do the same. He runs a machine learning engineering agency that consults for companies big and small in search, insurance, gaming, sports analytics, and more. He leads Data Advocacy for General Assembly, where he has created and delivered over 2000 hours of data science instruction.

Previously, Joseph co-founded Represently, the first company to help the U.S. Congress leverage machine learning to improve its constituent correspondence (acquired in 2018). He also helped launch and led instruction for General Assembly’s Data Science Immersive, a full-time 480-hour career changing experience. Joseph also taught workshops for GW’s Master’s in Data Science program. Before this, he built data visualization dashboards as a part of Facebook’s Politics and Government team.

Joseph is an advocate for using technology to improve social well-being, particularly in government. When he’s not modeling (data), he’s reading, running, or learning the tools to build his next side project. Joseph is from Iowa. @josephofiowa

In recognition of his exemplary service in the classroom, Joseph has been selected as a member of General Assembly's Distinguished Faculty program.
