Working inside both agency and in-house teams, John Kay has evolved with a career that has explored multiple creative disciplines. Equally at home in UX, advertising, branding, and visual design, John understands that at the core of all these disciplines there is a common thread—human communication. A designer learning to clearly understand others will create great experiences for consumers and clients, yes, but this same understanding creates the healthy processes that allow those experiences to come to life.
Before he joined General Assembly, John taught advertising and visual design for art directors, designers, and copywriters at The Creative Circus in Atlanta. Most recently, he led a User Experience and Design team for Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), managing architects, designers and content strategists to bring to life digital solutions across the portfolio of IHG brands.
John spends his time outside of class enjoying his family and friends, amusement parks, music, theater and Lego. You can occasionally find him hosting music trivia at a local bar or belting out a deliciously bad David Bowie at karaoke. John lives in Atlanta with his partner, Jason, and the singularly best cat that has ever existed, Chuck.
