Robinson graduated from Wabash College in 1997 with a degree in rhetoric and an area of concentration in business. He began his professional brewing career in 1999. After nearly a decade of brewing for large, corporate brew pubs in Indianapolis, Clay and his friend/fellow brewer Dave Colt decided to strike out on their own and create Sun King Brewing Company. The two brewers, along with business partners Omar Robinson, Andy Fagg and Steve Koers, began operations in July 2009 and have grown to become the second largest brewery in Indiana. In 2015 Sun King produced nearly 30,000 barrels of beer, selling and self-distributing nearly all of their beer in central Indiana.
