Bill Weisberger

Software Engineer II, Guild Education

Denver

Born in Richmond, Virginia, Bill Weisberger earned a BA in Psychology in 2008 from the University of Virginia at the age of 22. After working as a pizza cook, first in New Orleans and then in Boulder, Bill enrolled in a teaching program at CU-Boulder in 2011. He began working as a high school science teacher in Denver Public Schools in 2013, where he mostly taught biology and chemistry, but also took the opportunity to start a course in game development using Javascript. Six years later, at the age of 32 and after the birth of his daughter, Bill decided to change careers. He joined General Assembly's Software Engineering Immersive on June 17, 2019 (about two weeks after his last day as a teacher), graduated on September 11, 2019, and was offered a role as an Associate Software Engineer at Ibotta on October 4.

Five months after starting at Ibotta, Bill was laid off on April 7, 2020, due to the economic effects of COVID-19. His second kid was born twelve days later in the midst of the pandemic - it was a stressful time, but everything worked out in the end. In June, 2020, he started a new role as a Software Engineer I at Livongo, a health-tech company that was later acquired by Teladoc. After a year there and a promotion, Bill recently moved on to a new role as a Software Engineer II at Guild Education on October 27, 2021.

Bill works chiefly with Typescript and front-end frameworks like React and Vue, but he is interested in moving more toward the back-end over the next year or two. If he's not working he's probably reading a picture book to a toddler (1-year-old Victor or 3-year-old Nora), or washing dishes while listening to a podcast.
