    Alex Yakovlev

Knock knock. Who’s there? Alex telling bad programming jokes at final class presentations. Some might say it’s something to look forward to, while others cringe at the very mention. Love them or hate them, by the end of the course you’ll have over ten years of software engineering experience fused into the course content. Starting back before all the fancy new tech, Alex has a deep history and understanding of JavaScript before React, TypeScript, and even NPM took over. Don’t worry, we’ll learn about what these are!

Alex has worked in diverse software stacks from Java and Vanilla JS to PHP with Laravel and jQuery, and of course to the main topics of this course, including React and Node.js.

Originating from Canada, Alex has worked in the health technology space until joining Atlassian in Sydney, where he worked as a lead front end engineer and an engineering manager, before switching into an employee engagement role with the Atlassian Foundation. Now back in the software space, he has been working on some new ideas and experimenting with different technologies including C++ and Unreal Engine, and of course all the usual web development stacks.

Ask him about ice hockey or design principles, and settle in for a great class: rumour has it he doesn’t save all the jokes till the end.
