About This Class
Time to get technical with your insights from Excel analytics and turn them into useful, easily communicated visualizations in Tableau.
In this free, two-hour session, learn the importance of data visualization before diving into hands-on practice with dimensions, measures, and data types in Tableau. From there you’ll move on to chart types, interactive filters, and dashboards. By the end of this session you’ll have a clear, concise visualization to communicate the analysis you’ve completed.
Don’t miss our final data skills session, where you’ll learn about SQL architecture, data types and client tools, and then get practice with Hands-on SQL Basics and writing queries using SQL syntax. We’ll see you there.

Preparation
- This is a beginner-friendly series, so no prior knowledge is necessary.
- Download and install Tableau Public. Keep in mind, this part is optional.
- If you already have Tableau Desktop (professional version) through your workplace, you may use that instead.
- A recording of this session will be sent via email at the end of the full Skill Seeker series.
- This session will be held in a Zoom webinar, so your mic and camera will be off. We’ll interact through the chat, Q&A, and reactions.
About the Instructor
Shaheed Ismail is a business analyst who works with businesses on strategic projects. With over 12 years experience in large corporates, Shaheed has experience in business change, data analysis and technology implementation. Shaheed has worked at Bank of New York Mellon, Legal & General and the UK’s largest pension fund, Universities Superannuation Scheme. Shaheed teaches data analytics at General Assembly specialising in Excel, SQL and Tableau.
Shaheed holds a bachelors degree from the University of Cape Town and the International Diploma in Business Analysis through the British Computer Society. Shaheed is currently pursuing an MSc in Data Science at Birkbeck, University of London. He's also been mentoring and training students in data at General Assembly since 2019.
