About this class

Myth: Video production is difficult, expensive, and painful.

Fact: Video production is simple, affordable, and enjoyable!

Video generates 1200% more shares on social media than text and image combined. It is thus more essential than before to be equipped with basic video production skills to create succinct and impactful messages that would help distinguish your brand amidst a highly competitive social media landscape.

In this workshop, you will explore how to come up with creative video concepts. You’ll then learn the essentials behind video production i.e. pre-production, production, and post-production. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the logistics required for a video shoot. You’ll also be taught how to write a video script, and pick up basic skills in cinematography and video editing. Lastly, you’ll gain an insight into how video production houses and creative agencies work, and be able to collaboratively work with them more effectively.

This syllabus is specially catered for beginners, and no prior video background is required. Students who are keen to produce videos either as a hobby, or for marketing purposes, will find this highly useful. It will also greatly help professionals who are outsourcing their video production to external vendors.

Takeaways

Upon completion of the class, you will be equipped with the necessary skills to:

  • Conceptualise, plan, and execute simple video shoots

  • Write a structured video script

  • Capture simple yet impactful video footage, using entry-level equipment such as the mobile phone

  • Edit a simple video, using a web-based video editing tool

  • Better manage external vendors

Prereqs & Preparation

It would be greatly beneficial if students acquainted themselves with the free editing software that comes with either the Apple and/or Windows operating systems prior to the workshop.

They should bring a laptop, a mobile phone with video recording functions and a cable that is capable of synching the two devices. Both Apple or Windows operating systems should have inbuilt editing softwares respectively named iMovie and Movie Maker. It's suggested that class instruction be taught using the iPhone and Apple laptops.
