What the heck is a UTM code?

As data-driven marketers, we’re always looking for ways to understand and improve the channels and campaigns that bring us the most traffic and the most conversions. One of the simplest but most effective tools are UTM Tags.

UTM tags are a unique string you append to your URL to track any traffic that a source sends back to your website. This enables you to mine your audience’s behavioral data, boost your sales, and refine your marketing channel mix.

For example, instead of just knowing that Facebook or Twitter drove traffic to your website, you can use UTM tags to identify which specific posts (or ad campaigns) drove this traffic and better yet, which sources are better at converting prospects into customers.

It’s all pretty straightforward – as long as you’re doing it right.
