About this workshop

‘Big Data’ seems to be everywhere, and with seamless access to large public databases it is easy to get into ‘Data Overload’. Data is the ‘new oil’, meaning it can become a very valuable asset but only if you are able to wrangle this data into meaningful analysis. This class is designed to teach you just how to do that.

It is important to remember a ‘Model’ is simply using a tool to build a representation of a real world situation.

How you will benefit:

• Extract the most meaningful results from large and small data sets and multiple data types
• Become familiar with basic text analysis tools and gain insights from unstructured text data (Voyant)
• Use advanced analysis functions in Excel and open source tools

As long as you have a basic understanding of spreadsheets, you will learn how to manipulate complex data sets so you can gain insights that are not possible with common business intelligence techniques.
