Shanisha’s Changing Lives, Inc. will be hosting a Stock 101 workshop exclusively for the General Assembly community. We intend to get over 500 people investing in the stock market this year totaling over $1 million dollars invested as a community.
What You’ll Take Away: Learn the fundamentals of investing in the stock market and building a solid financial portfolio.
Why It Matters: Considering the times that we are in with federal interest rates at an all-time low, inflation threatens the growth potential of our money. If our money does not grow at rates higher than inflation currently approximately 2% our money will lose value. According to Forbes “46% of Americans ages 18-29 do NOT have a retirement plan at all, along with 26% ages 30-44”. Additionally, ssa.gov says “...social security should last until 2037”; this means if you were born in 1990 you will be 47 years young and gearing up for retirement. If most employers aren’t offering retirement plans and social security is cut, what position will our Gen X-ers and Millennials become at retirement? It is time for us to take control of our financial future and this will be your first step. Understanding the fundamentals of market investing and why you need to be in it to win it!
